LKAnglicans4Refugees. -- who are we?
With almost 70 Million refugees and displaced persons in our world, it is easy to become discouraged by the size of the challenge. We are the Anglican Church in the Deaneries of Lambton and Kent, in the Diocese of Huron. We know that we cannot resolve this massive problem, but we CAN make a difference. Rather than curse the darkness, we are lighting a few candles, sponsoring refugees to come and make their home in Canada. Jesus said: "You are the Light of the World." And in His name we are lighting some candles. You can be part of this work if you wish.

What have we accomplished?
In the past 5 years, we have sponsored and settled three families in the Sarnia/Lambton area. All three were families who escaped from war and persecution and are now successfully making new lives in our region. While this work was organized by the Anglican Church in this are, the work has been shared by parishes, individuals, and the wider community. God has directed many generous hearts, to join cause with us and make this work possible. By saving one family at a time, we can make our world a better place.

The Nessan Family - Iraq to Canada in 2021
Our current commitment is to sponsor the Nessan Family -- an extended family of 12- to come to Canada in 2021!
This family escaped from the horrible devastation caused by ISIL in Iraq in 2014. Their homes and livelihood were destroyed but the family of 12 managed to stay together. They are presently living in Amman, Jordan in a small apartment provided by UBNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees.) While they are out of danger, they are "stuck." There is nothing for them to return to in Iraq as their home is destroyed and their village no longer exists. All the inhabitants of the Mosul Plain fled for their lives depopulating the area. There is no future for them in Jordan either as they are not permitted to work and there is no path toward Jordanian citizenship. This hardworking family are consigned to lives of perpetual poverty in Jordan. They have place all their hopes upon our work to bring them to Canada. Our commitment is to bring them to Canada in 2020. For this to happen we need both funds and volunteers. If you have a heart for this ministry, you can be involved. You can give toward our cause and if you would like, you can volunteer to assist with settlement activities such as driving the family to appointments in Sarnia. How to help
In order to sponsor the Nessan family we must put on deposit $75,000. This is what it will likely cost to bring them to Canada and support all their needs for the first year. Many churches have been running fundraisers to defray this and we have received gifts of money from individuals. Once our needed total is reached, any funds after that will be used for our next family.
